Full statement from incoming Auburn University Student Government Association President Dane Block:
We are very excited to hit the ground running this year. A lot is in store and to have the opportunity to serve, promote, and unify all excites every single one of us beyond belief.
I think it is important focus on how minority is defined. I do realize that there isn’t the visual representation that some may be looking for. However, diversity is more than what meets the eye. We have a group of individuals that bring different opinions, mind sets, and goals to the table. Each member brings a unique set of experiences, knowledge, and dynamic to the group. Two of the appointed officers are sophomores and three are women. As a member of the LGBT community, Jordan allows us to represent a group that SGA hasn’t been adequately reached in the past. I can confidently tell you that we have a group that has a passion, desire, and vision for all of Auburn. The individuals that make up SGA’s new exec. are experienced, knowledgable, passionate, determined, all of the above…I cannot praise them enough.
As you know, we are not done yet, though. We have AVP applications going out next Monday and then cabinet selections following that. We are aware that our exec. does not have the visual representation of a minority group. However, this is a matter that is constantly discussed and is on our hearts and minds. We will continue building on the foundations and groundwork exec. teams have set in the past in regards to inclusion and diversity. With this mindset, we will strive to see that SGA promotes an inclusive and diverse climate both within the organization and on Auburn’s campus.
As I said numerous times before, I am excited to share this journey with an incredible team. Our desire to learn and grow along with a passion to serve all of Auburn will guide our vision for this upcoming year.
