AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- The names of the next appointed Auburn University Student Government Association executive officers have been released.
According to SGA Vice President-elect Schyler Burney; Mackenzie Yelton, Patrick Starr, Austin Chandler, Jordan Kramer and Bailey Hand have been identified as the next appointed executive team.
Yelton, who currently serves as SGA’s Executive Secretary, has been identified as the next Chief of Staff. Yelton, who recently served as SGA President-elect Dane Block’s campaign manager, will be responsible for the SGA Cabinet.
Starr was most recently the runner up for president in the SGA election. He currently serves as one of SGA’s Assistant Vice President for Programs and has been tapped as the next Executive Vice President of Programs. As EVP of Programs, Starr will be responsible for things such as Hey Day, Freshman Forum and SGA’s relationship with the athletic department.
Chandler, who currently serves as SGA’s Assistant Vice President of Auxiliary Services, has been tapped to serve as the next Executive Vice President for Initiatives. Chandler will be responsible for SGA’s relationship with the facilities department, parking services and with outside groups such as the City of Auburn and the State of Alabama.
Kramer, who recently lost his bid for re-election to the SGA Senate, just finished up his first term as one of three senators for the College of Liberal Arts. Kramer was accused in the campaign by a fellow candidate of violating election rules, but was found by the SGA Elections Board to not be in violation. Kramer will be responsible for the Auburn Answers Program, SGA town halls and SGA’s outreach to many campus organizations.
Hand, who recently served as SGA’s Assistant Vice President of Communication and Marketing, has been tapped as the next Executive Vice President of Communications and Marketing. Hand, who also recently served as Patrick Starr’s campaign manager in his unsuccessful bid for SGA President, will be responsible for SGA’s communication and public relations efforts.
If confirmed by the Student Government Association Senate, these appointed executive officers will join elected leaders Block, Burney and SGA Treasurer-elect Dixon Simmons.
This will be the first SGA executive team in recent years to have no minority representation. Past SGA President Jesse Westerhouse and outgoing SGA President Jacqueline Keck both had minority representation in their early executive teams and prioritized diversity and inclusion efforts during their administrations.
The new Student Government Association leaders will take office officially on February 25 at the annual SGA Banquet.
