Auburn, Ala. (EETV) – No. 5 Auburn traveled to Athens over the weekend to face No. 16 Georgia. This was the Tigers first sweep in Athens. The weekend consisted of great pitching and fire power batters.
In the opening game, Kaylee Carlson got the start at the mound and pitched a complete game. She allowed nine hits and threw two strikeout. Haley Fagan drew a career-high four walks and scored a team-best three runs. Auburn had a season-high 11 walks on the day. Kendall Veach had two RBI’s. Fagan, Courtney Shea and Casey McCrackin had one RBI each. Carlson pitched a perfect seventh frame with help from Alyssa Rivera who made a full-extension one-handed grab in foul territory. Auburn won 7-5 to open the series.
Makayla Martin got the start on the mound for game two. She pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits and throwing two strikeouts. Auburn tallied up 14 hits for a season-high in SEC play. Victoria Draper, Fagan and Rivera all had two hits and combined for five runs. In the top of the first, Carlee Wallace hit her third leadoff homer of the season for the first run of the game. In the second and fourth innings, Auburn added four runs to the board in each inning, making the score 9-2. In the fourth and seventh innings, Veach hit a ball out of the park. The final score was 13-4, clinching the series. Wallace and Veach each had four RBI’s.
On Sunday, the Tigers swept the Bulldogs with a winning score of 4-3. Kaylee Carlson stepped up to the mound again for her second complete game of the weekend. This time she allowed three runs and two strikeouts. Wallace, Veach and Rivera combined for 6-10 at bat. Shea had two RBI’s. Fagan and Veach had one RBI each. In the top of the first inning, Wallace scored on a Fagan groundout. Top of the third came around as Auburn added two more runs to the scoreboard. Veach brought Fagan home on a third. Veach was then brought home on a Shea double. UGA scored in the third inning and tied the game up in the fourth at 3-3. Auburn scored the winning run in the top of the fifth as Shea hit Veach home.
Auburn finished the weekend 31-5 and 6-3 in SEC play. The Tigers travel to Spain Park High School to face another bulldog team, Samford. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
