In an effort to unify a clear message throughout Opelika, the City of Opelika, the Opelika Chamber of Commerce, Opelika Main Street, Keep Opelika Beautiful, the Opelika City Schools, the Opelika Parks & Recreation Department, the Lewis Cooper Jr. Memorial Library, Opelika Power Services and the Opelika Economic Development office are introducing a new hashtag campaign. #beOpelika. #myOpelika. The group encourages business owners and citizens to use #myOpelika and #beOpelika on social media any time they are promoting, highlighting, showcasing something going on in town, at a sporting event, at a business event, at school, etc.
These eight entities are working together to strengthen communications throughout the City and to support each other in all endeavors – whether that be by promoting events, brainstorming ideas, sharing public relations and marketing knowledge or helping to define the brand and image of Opelika.
“It’s a meeting of the minds,” says Leigh Krehling, City of Opelika Community Relations Officer. “All of these creative professionals at the table can only enhance the image and communications strategies for our great City. We are bringing new, fun ideas to the table and the ‘releasing of the hashtags’ is just one way we can invite citizens to own Opelika.”
“#beOpelika is a way to invite industry and new residents to become part of our community, while #myOpelika gives current residents and business owners the chance to claim what’s already theirs,” states Krehling.
