Today is the three year anniversary of the death of former Auburn Tight End Philip Lutzenkirchen.
Not only was Lutzenkirchen a beloved player for what he did on the field, but for his character and leadership off of the field.
This marks an important day for the remembrance of his legacy. After Phillip's death, his dad Mike started a non-profit organization named Lutzie 43 that “aims to develop the character of young athletes and their coaches focusing on leadership, charity, compassion, mentorship, hard work, honesty and faith through educational and real world application” (Lutzie 43 Foundation).
The foundation hosts several events throughout the year to spread Philip’s legacy. Lutzie 43 is hosting a 5K at his former high school on August 5, 2017. In addition, Mike Lutzenkirchen travels across the country and gives speeches to teach character values and to share Philip’s story and legacy. Finally, there is a scholarship given out to high school juniors and seniors as well as college age students with a goal in mind to “safeguard young people, reduce poor decisions, and improve the way they serve and treat others” (Lutzie 43 Foundation).
Philip will always be remembered in his hometown of Marietta, Georgia as well as among the Auburn family for his philanthropic contributions, service to others as well as his character.
While, Auburn may have lost a wonderful Tiger, the community can be sure that his legacy will be one that will endure forever.
