London (EETV)- After an incredible performance against Johanna Konta, Venus Williams came into the Wimbledon finals more confident than ever.
The 37-year-old American battled with Spaniard Garbine Muguruza. Muguruza lost to Venus’s sister Serena just two years ago in the Wimbledon finals and was determined not to lose again.
After a tough battle Muguruza was down 4-5 and fought back to win the first set 7-5.
The second set would be a completely different story as Muguruza shutout Williams by a score of 6-0.
The match was ended by a long shot by Williams that was ruled in. Muguruza challenged the call and the call was overturned as Muguruza was declared the 2017 Wimbledon Women’s Champion.
On top of being a champion, Muguruza is now the only player to defeat both Williams sisters in a Grand Slam Final and is only the second Spaniard female to win Wimbledon.
