Auburn basketball is officially ready to hit the court, announcing their 2017-2018 schedule on Aug. 28.
Auburn has added several tough non-conference games to their schedule, something coach Bruce Pearl is known to do. These match-ups will include, potentially, 19 postseason teams from a year ago.
The Tigers first test will come in the Charleston Classic. Auburn will open up their tournament play on Nov. 16 against Indiana State but will have a tough road ahead.
Auburn could potentially face Temple in the second round if both teams were to win. Last season Temple went 21-12 and won the AAC regular season championship. Although they lost to UConn in the AAC Tournament, Temple was a 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Teams playing in the tournament include Clemson, Dayton (Auburn will also play in the regular season), Hofstra, Old Dominion, and Ohio.
Following the Charleston Classic, Auburn will begin their non-conference play. Their first test will come on Nov. 24 against Winthrop. Winthrop went 27-6 and won the Big South Tournament to get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Tigers will travel to Dayton on Nov. 29, another tough opponent. Last season, Dayton finished 24-8, getting an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Just following the end of finals, Auburn will play Middle Tennessee State in Birmingham. Middle Tennessee was one of the cinderella teams in the NCAA Tournament last season, defeating Minnesota (a 5 seed) in the first round.
Auburn's final tough non-conference opponent will be on Dec. 23 when they play UConn. Although UConn had a disappointing season last year (finishing 16-17), UConn has a long history of winning, including 4 national titles, the most recent being 2014.
Auburn will end non-conference play on Dec. 30 against Cornell and will open up SEC play on Jan. 2 against Tennessee.
Auburn will start their season on Nov. 2 against Berry.
