Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - The depth chart for the Auburn Tigers will be set by Tuesday, Coach Gus Malzahn announced Wednesday.
The Tigers are having a ‘dress rehearsal’ type practice on Friday to simulate game-like situations and to finalize the depth chart.
“More of the logistics from the sideline with the whole team and all the communication and all the ‘what ifs’,” said Malzahn. “Making sure that you’re prepared as a coaching staff, as a team for the different scenarios. You know with everyone on the same sideline.”
Malzahn also said that Offensive Coordinator Chip Lindsey will be calling plays from the sideline against Georgia Southern. The Tigers plan to key on their red zone offense early in the season.
“To be one of the best you have to be able to run the ball in,” said Malzahn. “When we’ve been really good, we’ve been good in the red zone.”
The Tigers are set to take on Georgia Southern for the first game of the season. Georgia Southern is known for playing tough against several big teams with a triple option style offense.
“I think the good thing is we have a long period to prepare,” said Malzahn.
Auburn will kick-off on September 2in Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
