AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The GameDay Challenge will promote sustainability through competition with other universities at home football games.
This year, Auburn University will join dozens of other universities in participating in the GameDay Challenge, a nationwide sustainability initiative turned competition.
Participating universities will compete to see who can recycle the most at home games. Each registered university will report recycling, compost and attendance data for a minimum of one home football game.
The GameDay Challenge will offer rewards to students spotted participating. Auburn Students who are found recycling at home games will receive an autographed football by head coach Guz Malzahn in addition to being featured on the iconic Jordan-Hare video board.
On home game days, students simply have to dispose their plastics and aluminum into the recycling bins located inside the stadium or at the tailgating areas to score a chance to win these Auburn inspired rewards.
In joining the Gameday Challenge, Auburn University is continuing to encourage sustainability efforts that will coincide with current sustainability initiatives including on-campus recycling bins, the War Eagle Bike Share, Auburn Foods and on-campus student organizations with a focus in sustainability.
Auburn will also participate in extended efforts to increase sustainability. This includes the launch of RecycleMania, an eight-week recycling competition period in the spring, Tiger Dining’s new food waste initiative as well as the conversion of Plainsman Park to sole LED lighting.
Sustainability is a priority for Auburn as Auburn strives to preserve the renown title as the “Loveliest Village on the Plains.”
