Auburn, Ala. (EETV) – Downtown Auburn has been the hub of excitement as updates to the area have been announced over the last several months.
Parking in downtown has been a consistent point of issue for years and the city, as we have previously reported, is taking a holistic approach to combat the issue.
At the last city council meeting, Councilors entered into a Memorandum of understanding with the Alabama State Board of Missions to add parking in the downtown area.

The vehicle entrance would also be on Wright Street with a pedestrian entrance and a park fronting College Street. The park may not be a permanent feature in downtown, there is an option for redevelopment to occur on the property, hiding the front of the deck.
The deck is estimated to hold 291 vehicles with 15 spaces dedicated to the Baptist Student Union.
The total cost of the project is estimated to cost $9,800,00.
$2,330,000 – land acquisition
$6,402,000 – cost to build
$1,100,000 – Cost to include the Baptist Student Union on the first floor
While the Council entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Alabama State Board of Missions, the deal for the land is not final yet. The city must still finalize and approve the development agreement, request design services, and bid the project.
Construction Could begin as soon as the beginning of 2018. The building project is expected to take 12 months to complete.
