Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Soccer traveled back home Sunday to welcome the Florida Gators on to plains. The Tigers upset the 10th ranked Gators in a 1-0 shutout.
The SEC matchup started off slow with a great defensive effort by goalkeeper Sarah Le Beau, that led to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first half. Le Beau, the redshirt junior from Illinois, went on to make eight saves between both halves.
The first half proved important for the underdog Tigers, as they held their ranked opponent to no points. The scoreless half would put the second half of the game, “in [the Tiger’s] favor” as head coach Karen Hoppa put it.
The Tigers came out for the second half and Kristen Dodson broke away to punch in an early goal. This will be the eighth goal of the season for Dodson.
Dodson’s goal and an impressive defensive performance went on to solidify the Auburn win. The victory improves Auburn's record to 7-4-3 (Conf. 4-1-2).
This is the sixth shutout of the season for the Auburn soccer team.
The Tigers continue SEC play as they travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss, Thursday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
