AUBURN, Ala (EETV) - Voters in various states will be heading to the polls today to cast ballots in several influential elections.
Virginia and New Jersey are among the two most watched elections, in which their governor’s races have received a large amount of attention throughout the country.
In Virginia, Democrats hope to get an election win after failing to mobilize a win in several recent special elections. Republicans see this as an opportunity to get a major victory in a state that currently has a Democrat in the Governor’s Mansion and was won by Hillary Clinton last year.
The Democratic candidate, Ralph Northam, is the current Lt. Governor and a former physician. The Republican candidate, Ed Gillespie, is a longtime Republican leader having served as the chair of the Republican National Committee and a former Counselor to President George W. Bush.
Much of the attention in recent days has gone to a controversial campaign ad paid for by a left-leaning organization showing a pickup truck with a Gillespie bumper sticker chasing minority children through a neighborhood. The Northam campaign has received heavy backlash for the ad from many, and the organization that funded the ad ended up pulling it following the October New York City truck attack.
