AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - As of this morning, the Lee County Emergency Management Agency has extended their countywide "impassable road advisory."
Some roads in the county are barricaded but the EMA says that any road in the county could have ice issues.
A statement from the EMA is asking residents to exercise patience, "Please have patience and STAY HOME AND STAY WARM".
Despite the travel advisory, Auburn University will still begin operations at noon with classes beginning at 12:30.
Students have reported icy road conditions on roads highly traveled by students including East University between Dean and Shelton Mill. Ice on the roads has also been reported on Glenn near 160 Ross and Evolve.
EETV has reached out to the Presidents Office for comment on whether or not they will be reevaluating the start time. At the time of publishing, we have not received a response.
UPDATE: Interim Campus Safety Director Chance Corbett says his department is looking into the road conditions this morning, "we have people riding the roads now. We will brief the administration on what we find."
UPDATE: According to the city, one road is closed and citizens are advised to avoid several roads in the city.
Farmville Road is closed between North Donahue Drive and Highway 280. Motorists are advised to avoid the following icy areas:
- East University Drive at Dekalb Street
- North Donahue Drive between Shug Jordan Parkway and Farmville Road
- Wire Road between Chadwick Lane and Kurderna Acres
UPDATE: Auburn Campus Safety tells students to contact professors if they cannot safely make it to campus.
We understand that some commuters are having difficulty traveling to campus. Email your professors now and let them know if you cannot travel safely to campus today. (1/2)
