AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Although the sun is out and roads appear to be thawing, road conditions are still unsafe in many areas. Motorists are urged to stay off the roads if possible.
City crews have been working to sand known trouble areas, especially intersections, throughout the City. Public Safety has identified the following roads as currently impassable (approximately noon CST on Jan. 17, 2018):
- Interstate 85 from mile marker 47 to mile marker 57. I-85 has been blocked off at mile marker 51 to avoid further accidents.
- North Donahue Drive near Miracle Road
- Moores Mill Road between East University Drive and Ogletree Road
- Most of Glenn Avenue, especially in hilly areas
- North College Street between East University Drive and Highway 280
- East University Drive between North Dean Road and Mall Boulevard
- Most of Opelika Road
- Highway 280 from Farmville Road to North College Street
- Shelton Mill Road from East University Drive to Highway 280
- Cox Road between Summit Lane and Sunset Drive
- South College Street between Woodfield Drive and East Samford Avenue
Motorists are strongly advised to stay away from these areas.
As temperatures drop again this afternoon and tonight, roads are expected to refreeze, perpetuating unsafe conditions overnight and Thursday morning. Motorists are advised to stay off roads until icy conditions have passed.
