TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (EETV)- University of Alabama Student Government Association President Jared Hunter was arrested Sunday by Tuscaloosa Police and charged with driving under the influence.
Hunter, who received widespread attention when he was elected in 2017, was the first African American SGA President to be endorsed by the University of Alabama’s “Machine” organization.
"We are disappointed when any of our students use poor judgment." says University of Alabama spokesperson Monica Watts, "We don’t have all of the details at this time so it would be premature for us to comment further."
According to the University's SGA constitution, malfeasance is grounds for removal from office.
SGA Director of Media Relations Sierra Stockley declined to comment, but told Eagle Eye TV that they would be making a statement soon.
