Auburn to sign four new 'speedy' receivers

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn Football head coach, Gus Malzahn, assembled his sixth recruiting class Wednesday, Feb. 7.

The quarterback lineup will soon be assisted with four receivers out of the 24 total new recruits. Matthew Hill and Anthony Schwartz signed Wednesday to join Seth Williams and Shedrick Jackson, a mid-year enrollee.

Hill, who helped his high school team get to the Class 7A Final Four, is a 6'2, 185-pound receiver from Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia.

Malzahn explained Hill as, "a guy we've recruited for a long period of time. We really feel like he's one of the better football players in all the country.  This guy can do it all.  He's the type of guy that you just want to get the ball in his hands."

Schwartz, being at 6'0 and 180 pounds, is a former track star from American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  He ran 100 meters in 10.15 seconds in the Florida Relays.

"He is the fastest guy in the country. He's also going to run track for our track team, very excited about that. He's a football player," Malzahn said. "I really believe this guy has a chance to really be special. He got better and better throughout his high school career. He's got that drive to make him special."

Williams from Cottondale and Jackson from Hoover are both in-state early signees for Auburn.

Mahlzan explains the 6'1, 185-pound Jackson's playing as "polished", as well as placing big emphasis on how his route running, coming in and out of breaks, and making a time of 4.4 seconds on the 40-yard dash gives him the chance to be a "real special player".

Williams was another big target being at 6'3 and 215 pounds.  He grew up about 10 miles from the stadium.

In December, Malzahn explained Williams as a, "great basketball player". He goes on to state, "I think he's got a great upside. He's a great athlete from Tuscaloosa. We haven't gotten many guys from there in the past."

Jackson will be joining Auburn's seven other mid-year enrollees when spring practice starts on March 1. Williams, Hill, and Schwartz will enroll this summer and start practicing in August.
