AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Dane Block has been elected Auburn University's next Student Government Association President.
Block, currently an SGA Senator for the Harbert College of Business, beat Patrick Starr in the highly contested runoff.
Block's campaign focused on campus safety, a revised transit system, and The American Talent Initiative, an organization that focuses on expanding opportunities for low-income students.
Block had three violations for the Auburn Election Board to consider coming into the announcement tonight. Those violations are for a supporter wearing Block's campaign shirt inside a university computer lab, supporters illegally campaigning off campus, and supporters using cell phones to garner votes.
Due to these violations, Block had a total of 60 votes removed from his total count.
Starr's only violation coming into the announcement was for using "exotic animals not listed as fair market value owned by the candidate and used to obtain and persuade votes." Starr lost 70 votes after the Elections Board's decision.
