AUBURN, AL (EETV)- The nonprofit organization Keep Opelika Beautiful will hold its citywide cleanup on Saturday, March 3. For 15 years the organization has conducted a one day cleanup for students, businesses and citizens to help keep Opelika's environment clean.
Students who participate in Auburn University's The Big Event program will be picking up litter in downtown Opelika as part of the clean up effort. Four organizations have already contacted Tipi Miller, director of Keep Opelika Beautiful, and she believes that number will increase.
"This is the third year we've had students help out, and we have 23 locations volunteers will be cleaning," said Miller.
This year the organization is also partnering with the 2018 Twenty Under Forty class in hope to bring in more volunteers.
After everyone is finished picking up litter that morning, the Opelika Exchange Club and the East Alabama Medical Center will provide food and supplies for volunteers.
Keep Opelika Beautiful's mission is to educate citizens of Opelika on the importance of living in a clean and beautiful environment. The organization's focus areas are beautification, litter prevention and recycling.
Anyone who wants to help the fight on litter is welcome to participate in the citywide cleanup. For more information contact Tipi Miller at tipi@keepopelikabeautiful.com or (334) 749-4970.
