AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The long-awaited Panera Bread that was scheduled to open in RBD Library has been abruptly replaced with "RBD Cafe," at least for now.
The change comes after Tiger Dining signed a new dining contract with Aramark, replacing Chartwells, the company that had originally signed Panera Bread.
According to Director of Tiger Dining Glen Loughridge, RBD Cafe is a temporary change due to the contractual change. Panera put the store on hold until the contract can be completed with Aramark.
Aramark's contract does not begin until May 7th, meaning that Panera cannot open until this summer.
Loughridge said RBD Cafe will serve as a space for Prevail Union coffee shop for the remainder of the semester. The menu will be nearly identical to the Newsroom C-Store that is on the first floor of the library, with grab and go sandwiches, salads and snacks.
Food trucks are also anticipated to be located outside of the library.
RBD Cafe opened this morning. Prevail Union will be located in Foy Hall beginning in the fall.
