WASHINGTON, D.C. (EETV)- People across the world are mourning the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush who died today at the age of 92.
Bush is one of the only people to serve as both wife and mother to United States presidents, having served as wife to George H.W. Bush and mother to George W. Bush.
National and local leaders are reacting to her death, remembering Bush for her long service to the country including her advocacy for literacy initiatives.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump wrote:
President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump join the Nation in celebrating the life of Barbara Bush. As a wife, mother, grandmother, military spouse, and former First Lady, Mrs. bush was an advocate of the American family. Amongst her greatest achievements was recognizing the importance of literacy as a fundamental family value that requires nurturing and protection. She will be long remembered for her strong devotion to county and family, both of which she served unfailingly well. The President and First Lady's thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mrs. Bush."
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey wrote:
“I am saddened to hear about the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush. She was a dynamic Republican woman, as First Lady she lead an effort to increase family literacy, an issue she championed to this day. She was matriarch of the Bush family, that produced governors and a president. Her life is a shining example of how strong women can serve their country and help improve the lives of all Americans. My thoughts and prayers are with the Bush family and all of America tonight.”

Bush had suffered from health problems in recent years and it was announced recently that she would start seeking comfort care.
