MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama Secretary of State, John Merrill, has begun to issue reminders to voters to submit their requests for absentee voting.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is quickly approaching on May 31, by the end of the business day. Putting in a request for an absentee ballot will allow voters to submit their votes for Alabama's 2018 Primary Election, which will occur on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.
The deadline to return the absentee ballot after is has been received is by the end of the business day on Monday, June 4, 2018. If a voter decides to submit their ballot by mail, the postmark must be no later than June 4. If a voter makes the decision to hand deliver their ballot, they must hand it in by the end of the business day on June 4.
Those looking to request an absentee ballot should be aware of the state holiday, Jefferson Davis' birthday, on June 4, because some county courthouses may be closed on that date. If that is the case, the last day to submit an absentee ballot would be on Friday, June 1, 2018.
