Auburn, Ala. -- Mayor Bill Ham Jr. has set the date for Auburn's 20th annual Memorial Day breakfast. On May 28, Ham and the Auburn Veterans Committee invite members of Auburn's community to join them in honoring the U.S. military and those who have served.
The breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. at the Auburn University Hotel and Dixon Conference center. At the event, members of Auburn University's Navy ROTC program will present flag, and Lisa Tabor will sing the National Anthem and the Medley of Service Songs.
At the event, Retired Lt. Col. Fred Lacy will be named guest of honor and will be awarded the 2018 Distinguished Veteran Award. There will also be a family awarded with the Auburn Heroes Remembered Award. This is the seventh year that the award will be given, and is given to a local family who has had a distinguished veteran pass away. This year, the award will be given to in honor of former City of Auburn police captain, Sgt. Frank M. deGraffenried.
Following the breakfast, there will be a memorial wreath ceremony and the award presentations at 10 a.m. at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Monument. The monument is located at the northeast corner of Ross Street and Glenn Avenue.
Tickets to this event are $25 per person, or $250 for a table of 10. The tickets can be purchased at City Hall, and the proceeds from this event will be given to the Auburn Veterans Memorial Fund.
