Auburn Softball set to play Alabama in first game of SEC Championship

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)– No. 15 Auburn softball is set to open play at the SEC Tournament in Columbia, Mo. with a first round meeting with 13th-ranked Alabama Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Tigers are the ninth seed and will serve as the road team against the 8-seed Crimson Tide.

The game will serve as the nightcap of the tournament’s opening round and can be viewed on the SEC Network with Beth Mowins, Michele Smith and Holly Rowe on the call. Additionally, fans can tune in to FM Talk 95.9 to hear Brad Law and Brit Bowen on the Auburn Radio call.

The in-state rivalry matchup will be the ninth meeting between the Tide and Tigers in the SEC Tournament. Alabama holds a 5-3 lead in those games, however Auburn has taken the last two meetings, both of which led to the Tigers eventually winning the SEC Championship titles in 2015 and 2016.

This will be the fourth meeting between the teams of 2018. Earlier this season, March 16-18, Auburn played host to Alabama for a regular season series at Jane B. Moore. The Tigers won the series 2-1 in dramatic fashion on a walk-off 2-1 win in the series finale.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will take on No. 1 seed Florida on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
