Auburn, Ala. -- Auburn University is making steps toward developing groundbreaking research on campus by recently investing $5 million in 11 different research projects. All 11 projects are designed to adhere to the promises Auburn University President Steven Leath made in his installation speech in March.
"Our duty is to engage our students, graduates, faculty and partners to transform the fruits of our scholarship and research into products, methods and services that meet our communities’ most pressing needs. Delivering real-world, practical solutions is what sets land-grants apart and is core to our foundation," said Leath during his speech.
This project is just one part of Leath's initiative, which is funded through he Presidential Awards for Interdisciplinary Research, or PAIR. Leath created this initiative last year in order to bring Auburn to a higher level when it comes to research and distinction. This funding is set to extend over three years.
Research topics include: "3D printing" bio-medical implants; rural health differences in areas suffering of poverty; treating the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease; reduction of carbon-dioxide emissions or finding out other ways to use them; neuroscience research; and many other health topics that span over humans and the environment.
The university received 101 proposals, and chose only 11 out of the lot to give funding to. Auburn believes the 11 projects that it has chosen will work to demonstrate Auburn's commitment of delivering life-changing research.
