AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- On Tuesday Auburn Police arrested Kelvin M. Jelks and Dijimon M. Moss from Birmingham, charging them each with Robbery First Degree and Fleeing/Attempting to Elude Police Officers.
At about 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, a victim reported that she was approached, in the 2300 block of Pam Circle, by a male armed with a handgun demanding money and her vehicle. She surrendered her 2006 BMW 328i and an undisclosed amount of cash; one suspect drove away in her vehicle and a second male suspect left in a black Pontiac G6 that the armed suspect arrived in. The victim was not injured.
According to information provided to Police an APD Officer later observed the stolen, as well as the suspect vehicle, on E. Glenn Avenue near Bent Creek Road and attempted to perform a traffic stop. Both vehicles fled from officers and a brief vehicle chase ensued, involving units from Auburn & Opelika Police, Lee County Sheriff Office and members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. The suspect driving the stolen BMW collided with two uninvolved vehicles at the intersection of Gateway Drive and Frederick Road. Neither he nor the uninvolved drivers were injured. The suspect driving the Pontiac sustained non-life-threatening injuries when he exited his moving vehicle that left the roadway struck a sign and came to rest in the parking lot of a bank near the intersection. Both suspects fled on foot but were taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
An investigation identified Kelvin M. Jelks and Dijimon M. Moss as the individuals allegedly responsible for taking the victims vehicle and money. Moss was transported to the Lee County Jail while Jelks is receiving treatment for his injuries at EAMC. Both remain in custody on a $253,000 bond.
