Montgomery, Ala. -- Attorney General Steve Marshall announced Thursday, August 23, the arrest of former prominent Prattville attorney George Walthall Jr.
Walthall, now 70, is accused of unauthorized practice of law and attempted theft of property.
In May, Walthall was arrested for allegedly receiving stolen property, with this charge still pending. Walthall surrendered his law license after an investigation by the Alabama Bar Association and his disbarment went into effect on June 14.
Walthall’s most recent arrest stems from two warrants: one count of theft of property in the first degree for allegedly attempting to collect a payment for legal services on three separate occasions and one count of unauthorized practice of law for allegedly seeking relief on a defendant’s bond.
Any person who is contacted by Walthall for legal services after June 1 is asked to notify the Attorney General’s Investigations Division.
If convicted, Walthall faces a maximum penalty of one to 10 years for the charge of first degree attempted theft of property, a class C felony, and up to six months in jail for the charge of unauthorized practice of law, a class B misdemeanor.
