Montgomery, Ala. - Attorney General Steve Marshall announced on Monday, August 28, the arrest of a former Troy counselor on charges that she defrauded the Alabama Medicaid Agency.
Yvonne Bradford-Porterfield of Troy, surrender at the Montgomery County Detention Facility and was released on a $10,000 bond.
The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, spearheaded by Marshall, presented evidence to a grand jury resulting in Porterfield’s indictment in April, 2017. She has resided out-of-state since before the indictment was returned against her.
Porterfield was indicted on one count of Medicaid fraud and one count of first-degree theft of property.
According to a press release from the attorney general’s office, while Porterfield owned Because We Care Counseling Service in Troy, she allegedly submitted reports to the Medicaid Agency for counseling services that never happened, receiving over $11,000 in improper payments.
No additional information regarding Porterfield’s charges is being released at this time.
Porterfield faces a maximum penalty of two to 20 years for the theft charge, a class B felony, and one to 10 years for the Medicaid fraud charge, a class C felony.
