Auburn, Ala. - According to a news release from Auburn University, Graphic Design USA named University Professor Robert Finkel as the “Educator to Watch” in 2018.
The “Educators to Watch” feature began in 2017 because of the influence that design education and educators have on the “fast-changing shape of design, media, and culture.”
“Teaching has helped me clarify my own design process and to be more intentional and reflective in the projects I pursue,” says Finkel. “Every day I’m around curious and enthusiastic designers—both students and colleagues. The reciprocal nature of the student-teacher relationship is motivating and inspirational.”
Finked began his education at Rhodes College and received his Master of Arts degree from the University of Florida. He joined the graphic design department in 2012, teaching various classes ranging from graphic design history to corporate identity design.
Finkel has earned a Gold Award from the University & College Designers Association Competition as well as many others.
Finkel is the second Auburn professor to be featured on this list with Associate Professor Courtney Windham being on the first list in 2017.
