AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn faced off against the Tennessee Volunteers Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The first quarter looked promising as the Tigers offense looked to bounce back after the hard loss at Mississippi State.
Auburn took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter after a 1-yard run from fullback, Chandler Cox. Tennessee kicker, Brent Cimaglia, responded with a 42-yard field goal, but Auburn would end the first quarter with a 10-3 lead after a 20-yard field goal from Anders Carlson.
At the start of the second quarter, Auburn quarterback, Jarrett Stidham, threw an interception that led to the Tennessee offense traveling 59-yards in 5 plays to score a touchdown and tie the game. Auburn would force a 3 and out from the Tennessee offense and get the ball back with four minutes left until the half. Stidham utilized this defensive stop and threw a right pass to Anthony Schwartz, which he carried 76 yards for a touchdown. Tennessee would respond with a 45-yard field goal. Auburn entered halftime with a 17-13 lead.
After the half, Tennessee would hold the Auburn offense to a 3 and out and force a punt. The Volunteers traveled 86-yards to score off a pass from quarterback Jarrett Guarantano to Jauan Jennings. Auburn got the ball back with three minutes left in the quarter, but a fumble from Stidham led to an 8-yard touchdown recovery for the Tennessee defense.
Tennessee entered the 4th quarter with a 17-27 lead. Auburn started the quarter with a missed field goal from Carlson from 54-yards. Tennessee responded with their own 20-yard field goal from Cimaglia. Auburn remained scoreless until the last minute of the game, where Stidham completed a 14-yard end zone pass to Seth Williams for a final score of 24 Auburn - 30 Tennessee.
Auburn ended the game with two turnovers, while Tennessee had zero turnovers and 14 points off turnovers. Auburns new record is 3-3 and they will head to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels next week.
