AUBURN, Ala. -- Mary Margaret Turton is one of three candidates running for Student Government Association (SGA) president this campaign season.
Turton has been serving on SGA since her freshman year at Auburn. The first position that Turton held was Director of City Relations. This role allowed Turton to gain experience working closely with the Mayor and City Council. In this role, Turton could advocate for student interests and be the liaison between the university to the city.
Currently in SGA, Turton serves as a senator for the Harbert College of Business with the Budget and Finance Committee. In this committee, Turton works alongside other students to distribute the $2.6 million budget to different campus organizations and activities.
"Turton on Target is a campaign focused on equipping Auburn students with the tools and foundation we need to achieve your goals, to hit your targets," said Turton. "As your SGA president, I would target campus life, innovation and wellness to maximize student potential and the student experience."
Turton describes her platform as feasible and with a strong focus on student empowerment.
The focuses of Turton's platform include establishing a student-ticket program for Auburn Men's Basketball; increasing the number of student-favored dining options on central campus; creating the option of donating unused dining dollars to other Auburn students facing food insecurity; and creating a student-centered podcast for SGA, targeted at serving, promoting and unifying the student body and increasing transparency.
"I am really excited about the opportunity to share my vision and passion for Auburn with the student body this week," said Turton.
