AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn Gymnastics had a record breaking meet against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday, Feb. 15.
It was a night of several firsts for the number 11 ranked Tigers. Confidence and consistency got the team their fifth SEC win of the season, a season high score of 197.100, a program high bars score of 49.600 and a season high vault score of 49.325.
For the team's last SEC meet in Auburn Arena for the 2019 season, the gymnasts fed off the sold out crowd's energy, as well as each other. "It's a great atmosphere. We use our crowd to build off of it, but it also comes from ourselves. We use our team and our energy, and the crowd just kind of joins in with us.", said sophomore Jada Glenn during a press conference after the meet.
Key gymnasts were Drew Watson who had the best all-around score of 39.625 of both teams and high score of 9.950 on vault, Derrian Gobourne with the highest floor routine score of 9.925, Gracie Day on bars with a high score of 9.975 and Arkansas' Michaela Burton leading on balance beam at a score of 9.950.
After a loss last week to the Florida Gators Auburn Gymnastics "got their spark back," and with a score over 197, the team is looking forward to build and move forward. "We never give up. Auburn Gymnastics never gives up", said Watson.
The Auburn Tigers look to take on Texas Woman's University at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.
