AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- The Auburn Tigers softball team won in convincing fashion against North Dakota State 4-1. It was the defense of the Tigers that stood out the most with pitcher Makayla Martin striking out seven batters.
Casey McCrackin’s RBI double scored Morgan Podany and then Alyssa Rivera’s RBI single to left pushed McCrackin around to score. Rivera's power behind the plate cannot go unnoticed as she slammed a home run to deep right in the bottom of the first inning. That gave Auburn all the momentum they needed for the rest of the game as the score was never in doubt.
There was a scare in the top of the seventh inning where North Dakota State had the bases loaded with two outs, but the last batter eventually popped the ball up to left field to seal the final out of the game.
Auburn's day could not have gone any better with an earlier win against Villanova Friday, 8-0. After Friday’s two wins, Auburn moved to 9-3 on the season. Auburn reeled off three straight run-rule wins after a 5-4 loss to Texas Tech last weekend, before North Dakota State took the Tigers to the distance.
Auburn plays Villanova again Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and will close their weekend with in-state foe Troy at 2 p.m. Sunday.
