AUBURN, Ala. -- A new app, Class Cash, is headed to the plains and wants to reward students with money for studying and going to class.
“We want to help kids get paid for stuff they are already doing,” said Chaney Knowlton, an Auburn University senior in marketing, who is working on the app with three Auburn alumni, Grant Dammicci, Connor Lewis and Parker Roan.
Class Cash will provide students with defined zones, including classrooms and study spots on campus. When students arrive to these locations, they can activate an earning session by using the app and scanning a class cash sticker on their laptop. Every minute the student’s laptop stays open in the zone, the student earns money.
The amount of the payout will depend on who is sponsoring, but the team plans on getting sponsorship from local companies first. They even want to get parents involved, by allowing them to provide their children with allowance based off of how much time they spend studying.
Unlike apps like Pocket Points, Class Cash allows students to deposit funds directly into their accounts via Venmo and PayPal. It also does not restrict students' technology.
“Our mission is to put students first," said Knowlton.
The team's mission revolves around providing students with supplemental income, enhancing their study experience and building lasting relationships with students and sponsors.
The app will be rolling out a beta version this spring, exclusive to Auburn students, to get an idea of how they can best provide this app for students. After perfecting the way the app works, the team plans to release the app officially on Auburn's campus in the fall-- hopefully reaching other college campuses in the future.
Students can sign up for a waitlist to be the first to try the app here.
