Auburn, AL (EETV)- No. 12 Auburn falls to the No.18 Georgia Bulldogs 3-2 in game two of the series at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn.
Despite having a 1-0 lead from the bottom of the second to the top of the fifth, the Tigers couldn't rally their offense enough to pull out a win. The loss gives Georgia the series win and marks the first time since 2014 that the Bulldogs have taken a series against the Tigers.
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the fifth, taking the lead 2-1. A solo home-run by Ciara Bryan in the top of the sixth extended Georgia's lead to 3-1.
Entering the seventh inning, the score remained 3-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Auburn looked for an offensive burst in hopes for a walk-off win.
Brittany Maresette hit a solo inside-the-park home-run to shorten the lead to 3-2, but the home-run was not enough as the Tigers could not rally their offense enough to take the lead.
"I thought, when I got to third base, that was going to be it, but when I got there, Coach kept waving me, so I kept running," said Maresette.
Auburn pitcher Lexie Handley pitched 6.2 innings, had three strikeouts, four walks and allowed one home-run. At the top of the seventh, Auburn made a call to the bullpen so Ashlee Swindle could finish out the game. Swindle had one strikeout and one walk.
The Tigers look to avoid to shutout in game three on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game can be found on the SEC Network + and broadcasted on the Auburn Sports Network.
