Auburn, Ala (EETV)-
Auburn Sophomore Tanner Burns was tabbed SEC pitcher of the Week after his performance against Cincinnati over the weekend.
Burns matched Auburn's single game strikeout record as he took down 15 batters in the series opener and joined the 15 strikeout club which boasts members such as Casey Mize (2018), Tim Hudson (1997), and John Powell (1986).
This is the first time in Burns' career that he has earned the honor and he is the first Auburn underclassman pitcher to earn the award since Keegan Thompson in 2015.
The contest on Friday was the first complete game shutout in the conference this season and the first of Burns' career. He struck out six of the first nine batters and took down two or more in six innings of work. He totaled 104 pitches with 78 being strikes.
The Tigers welcome in UT Martin as the non-conference schedule continues on Tuesday and Wednesday with first pitch at Plainsman Park scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
