Auburn, AL (EETV)- According to a report from ESPN, freshman Bo Nix has been named as the starting quarterback for the 2019 season. Nix beat out Joey Gatewood who had been with the team last season.
Nix hails from Pinson Valley where he won two state championships with his father and former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix. Nix racked up over 12,000 yards passing and 161 total touchdowns.
During his high school career, he was named Gatorade Player of the Year along with Alabama's Mr. Football. Nix was invited to play the Alabama vs Mississippi and the Under Armour game.
Nix was ranked the number one dual threat quarterback by 24/7 Sports with a composite rating of 0.9857 which is the highest among all of the SEC's starting quarterbacks.
He also becomes the first Auburn quarterback to start in the modern era as a freshman. Nix and the Tigers take the field in Dallas on August 31st against Oregon with kickoff set for 6:30.
