Auburn, AL (EETV)- Auburn fans will remember this win for a long time as the Tigers upset the fifth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 48-45. In a back-and-forth affair, the Crimson Tide would come up short on a missed field goal from Joseph Bulovas with two minutes remaining.
Both team's offenses marched up and down the field in first half scoring 58 points combined including six scores from both teams in the last five minutes of the half.
A big moment in the game came when the officials put one second on the clock for Anders Carlson to make 52 yard field goal to cut the Tide's lead to 31-27 at halftime.
Auburn's defense answered the call as Zakoby McClain would intercept Alabama quarterback Mac Jones and take it back 100 yards for the score to give Auburn a 37-31 lead.
Alabama would take the lead again but Auburn would march down the field to score as Shaun Shivers would power his way in to score to give Auburn the lead. The Tigers would convert a two-point conversion to give Auburn a three-point lead.
Alabama's missed field goal would prove to be the difference as Auburn would defeat Alabama for the first time since 2017. The loss eliminates Alabama from playoff contention for the 2019 season.
Alabama reciever Jaylen Waddle had a breakout night with four touchdowns including a 98 yard kick return in the second quarter. Mac Jones rose to the occasion passing for 335 yards and four touchdowns but his two pick six plays would cost his team.
Jones's counterpart Bo Nix would throw for 173 yards and one touchdown and Jatarvius Whitlow would rush for 114 yards. Auburn's record improves to 9-3 and they will await thier bowl destination next week after the conference championships are played.
