AUBURN, Ala (EETV) - The Auburn Tigers fell to the Kentucky Wildcats 196.250 to 197.275 Friday night in Auburn Arena.
Despite leading after the first rotation, the Tigers got large deductions on bars, beam, and floor. These deductions came from Drew Watson falling off bars and getting a 9.075 and Emma Slappey slipping off the beam and getting a 9.100.
“I thought we started well and the last three routines finished well,” Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said in the post-meet press conference.
Although the Tigers were defeated they still showed strong performances throughout the night.
Derrian Gobourne scored the high score of the night on floor for the Tigers with a 9.950. Gobourne also snagged the Tigers’ best bars score with a 9.875.
Freshman Cassie Stevens had the highest overall total for the Tigers, getting a 39.050. Steven’s best score of the night was on vault, where she scored a 9.000.
The team as a whole also scored a season-best on vault scoring a 49.425. Senior Gracie Day racked up a 9.925 followed by Cassie Stevens, Drew Watson and Derrian Gobourne all scoring 9.9.
Kentucky Senior Mollie Korth lead the way for the Wildcats, scoring 39.575, with her lowest score of the night being a 9.850. Junior Ella Warren was right behind her with a 39.375.
The Tigers will return to Auburn Arena next Friday, Feb. 14, where they will host No. 2 Florida for another SEC matchup. The meet will begin at 7:30 p.m. CT.
