New date announced for primary runoff election

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) -Governor Kay Ivey has announced the primary runoff election will be moved to July 14, 2020.

The Governor's announcement is a result of public health concerns surrounding the COVID- 19 pandemic.

“I am grateful to Governor Ivey and General Marshall for their proactive leadership, sincere dedication, and spirit of teamwork displayed during these trying times,” said Secretary of State John H. Merrill. “It is critical that we provide a safe and secure environment for all 3,585,209 voters in the State of Alabama to participate in the electoral process.”

The runoff between former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville was originally set to take place on March 31.

Elidable voters will now have until Monday, June 29 to register.
