Bronxville, NY- With the seventh pick in the NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected defensive tackle Derrick Brown from Auburn. Brown was one of the highest rated defensive players in the class this year among the names of Chase Young, Isaiah Simmons, and Javon Kinlaw.
Brown finished his career at Auburn with 12.5 sacks, 33 tackles for loss, and five forced fumbles. He was selected as the 2019 SEC Defensive Player of the Year as well as winning the Lott Impact Trophy and All-American honors.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 318 lbs, Brown might be one of the faster defensive tackles in this class posting a 5.16 in his 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine.
Brown is the first of several Auburn players who will look to get drafted by pro teams. Notable players such as Noah Igbinoghene, Javaris Davis, and Marlon Davidson. Davidson is projected to go in the second round by ESPN Analyst Mel Kiper Jr. Kiper Jr.
The first round has seen the top pick Joe Burrow of LSU go to the Cincinatti Bengals. Chase Young of Ohio State went as the second pick to the Washington Redskins and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa go to the Miami Dolphins as the fifth pick in the draft.
The draft will continue through the weekend with the second round starting tomorrow at 6pm on the networks of ESPN.
