AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Three Auburn golfers were named to the ANNIKA Award Watch List, including Julia McCarthy, Megan Schofill and Kaleigh Telfer.
The ANNIKA Award is presented to the most outstanding women’s college golfer and is voted on by other players, coaches and media. Auburn is only one of only two college teams to have three players make the watch list.
Head Coach Melissa Luellen said, “It is a complete honor and validation of how far our program has come to have three players on the list.”
She believes that the team could have four girls on this list at any point in time because of their evident hard work.
Junior Kaleigh Telfer has won numerous awards during her time playing on the Auburn golf team. This time marks her third time on the ANNIKA Award Watch List. Last year, Schofill had an incredible season, tying Telfer in the Lake Oconee Invitationals along with four top-10 finishes. McCarthy is healthy after coming off a few injuries last year and making the list for the second time.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the golf team is split into two groups: those who can play this fall and those playing in the spring. Auburn’s team kicks off their season Oct. 5 at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It includes all 14 SEC golf teams.
Coach Luellen is excited at how the qualifying is going for the season and believes this season will be a competitive one.
“I’d say in my 20 years, our qualifying scores are as good as I’ve seen,” Luellen said.
