AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - With more than 2,000 students scheduled to graduate amidst the COVID-19 pandemic this fall semester, Auburn University has announced that it plans to hold its fall commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 12. Contingent on weather, as well as current health and safety guidelines, the ceremony will be held in Jordan-Hare Stadium beginning at 8 a.m. Individual colleges and schools will recognize students at set times throughout the day.
The University also announced that graduates set to attend the May and August commencement ceremonies may participate in the December ceremony. Any spring or summer graduate interested in partaking must submit a registration form on the commencement website to ensure that they have their own name card printed in advance.
Auburn University has requested that graduates arrive no later than 20 minutes prior to their set time and adhere to COVID-19 guidelines. Graduates must wear facemasks throughout the entirety of the event and are only permitted to remove them when they cross the stage for photographs. Families and guests must also adhere to COVID-19 guidelines. They will be required to physically distance in groups and are strongly encouraged to wear facemasks. Hand sanitizer will be easily accessible for students and guests in attendance. Students who are unable to attend or have health concerns will be able to attend a live stream of the fall commencement ceremony.
Auburn anticipates hosting the commencement ceremonies in December, but contingency plans are in place in the event of COVID-19 regulation changes or severe weather. These plans involve live streaming the ceremonies at Auburn Arena, but without guests in attendance.
