AUBURN, Ala. – For the Auburn women’s golf team, the goal remains the same no matter what the lineup is for the next tournament.
“Be in a position the last day to have an opportunity to win,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. “I know how competitive our team is. No matter who we put in there, we’re going to be fighting and scrapping. And I think throughout the year we’ll have a lot of opportunities to win.”
Auburn tees off for the second tournament of the 2020-21 season at The Ally at Old Waverly. The Lady Tigers will have a new lineup in the three-day event.
Returning again, Juniors Kaleigh Telfer and Mychael O’Berry will be in the top two spots for this event. Following them will be returning freshman Megan Schofill, who will be making her season debut for Auburn.
Schofill shot three straight rounds under par to finish second overall last year at the Magnolia Invitational. She made the Round of 16 in the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur played at Old Waverly.
“I have always liked that course,” Schofill said. “I just love the atmosphere out there. Mississippi State does a great job running that tournament. I don’t know. It just sets up good to my eye. Onc you play a course well a few times, you just start to see how everything is supposed to lay out. It’s going to be a good field this year, too.”
Elina Sinz and Anna foster, two freshmen will be making their collegiate debuts at Old Waverly.
This course (Par 72, 6,377 yards) has put Auburn in a good position in the last two years. Schofill shot 8-under par placing her in second last year and Anika Bolcíková won the Magnolia Invitational two years ago as a freshman in her first event with the ladies golf team.
Lady Tigers tee off Monday at 10:30 a.m. CT from the first hole.
