AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Although Auburn suffered a loss to the Georgia Bulldogs this past week, head coach Gus Malzahn believes there is still time to turn the season around.
“We’re going to learn from this experience,” Malzahn said. “We’re going to grow each week.”
Malzahn talked about Georgia’s offense and how well they carried the ball. He spoke highly of their offense, as Auburn’s defense had to play catch-up throughout the game. He also highlighted a few of his own players who gave a good look into the future, including Tank Beasley.
“They made us one dimensional and that was really tough,” Malzahn said. “We really expected Tank to carry a big load, and we were really pleased with the way he responded specifically the first game.”
In Saturday’s game, starting quarterback Bo Nix did not have as much time in his hands than expected. He was faced with many tough decisions.
Malzahn didn’t seem worried as he said, “He is a competitor and he was competing. He is our offensive leader and he is a great competitor.”
While SEC football looks a lot different this year with COVID-19, Malzahn believes there is still hope for the Tigers' remaining eight games.
“It is going to be a unique year; you’ve got to be prepared for anything,” Malzahn said. “We’re hopeful to have everyone back by the end of the week.”
After looking at past history, Malzahn said that he will remain hopeful because the end of the season is still unknown.
In response to seeing other teams and how they have been playing, Malzahn said, “Championship teams respond. The teams that are there at the end are the one who gradually got better.”
