Women’s Golf Opens Blessings Collegiate Invitational with Strong First Round

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – The Auburn women’s golf team had a strong opening round at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Monday. 

Auburn was led by juniors Julie McCarthy, Mychael O’Berry and Kaleigh Telfer, who all shot a 74 (+2).  All three golfers are tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard. 

McCarthy opened her round with three birdies on the front nine, while O’Berry parred seven straight holes on the front nine along with birdying the ninth and 16th holes. Telfer had back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes as well as birdying the 15th hole to shoot even par on the back nine.  

Sophomore Brooke Sansom shot 6-over on the front nine but was even par on the back nine with birdies on the 13th and 16th holes. Sansom is currently tied for 36th on the individual leaderboard at +6. 

In her collegiate debut, true freshman Ashley-Sinclair Curtis shot an 88 (+16).  

The Auburn team is currently tied for 4th place with Georgia at +12. Arkansas leads the tournament with a team score of +1, four shots ahead of LSU (+5). Florida is six shots back off the pace at +7.
