AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs in emphatic fashion 33-0 to close out the two-game series. The Tigers broke the school record for runs and hits in a game with 33 runs and 27 hits.
Auburn scored 14 runs in the 4th inning to take a commanding lead they would only further. The game was another excellent display of batting from the team.
Brody Moore was the standout performer for the Tigers going 4-6 with seven RBI. Following closely behind was Bryson Ware who had four RBI going 3-5 at the plate.
12 different Tigers recorded a hit on the night. Jud Ward, Josh Hall, Brayton Brown, Steven Williams, Tyler Miller, Kason Howell and Garrett Farquhar all contributed RBI.
Promising freshman Cam Hill continued showcase his talent with a triple in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hill would finish the night 1-3 with three RBI. Fellow freshman Jack Sokol started on the mound for Auburn and performed well pitching four scoreless innings.
Coach Butch Thompson was complimentary of the way the team conducted themselves during the game.
“It’s one of the most complete games I’ve ever been a part of…I thought our guys remained focused throughout the game.”
Coach Thompson also let everyone know the mindset that this team is taking into each game.
“We tried to make today the first game of the College World Series…the stakes can be higher, but there’s only one way to play the game” he said.
Oklahoma will be a much tougher test for the Tigers on Friday and Coach Thompson is well aware of their strengths.
“They have a plethora of great arms, they’re younger, but they’re talented” coach explained.
Brody Moore spoke after the game about looking forward to their first trip out of Auburn since the College World Series.
“I think we’re all ready…it’s good for us and something we’ve all been waiting for” the junior said.
Auburn will take part in the Round Rock Classic in Round Rock, TX. The Tigers will face Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas A&M. First Pitch against Oklahoma is scheduled for Friday at 12 pm C.T. at Dell Diamond.
