AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Pitcher Shelby Lowe from Carrolton, Alabama, was selected as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week from her performance at the Auburn Invitational last week.
The Tigers were undefeated and she picked up three wins in the pitcher’s circle. This is the third time an Auburn freshman has been named for this award this season, setting a program record for honors in one season.
Lowe is a left-handed pitcher and worked to earn Auburn three out of their five wins. Lowe pitched for 15.1 total innings and only gave up three walks. Lowe also struck out 26 batters. She allowed just two runs of nine hits to close the weekend with a .91 run average and holding her opponents to a .167 average at the plate.
The weekend started with a game against Troy. Lowe held the Troy Trojans hitless over 3.1 innings and striking out seven of 12 batters. The Tigers won 8-1.
Against Southern Miss, Lowe struck out 11 batters. This marked her third double-digit strikeout of the season. She ended her consecutive scoreless innings streak at 24.1 innings being the eighth longest in program history.
Finally, against Southeastern Louisiana, she tossed five innings only allowing two runs off five hits and walked two while striking out eight.
Some of Lowe’s averages include: 0.61 run average, fourth in the SEC, only allowing three earned runs in 34.2 innings pitched, struck 56, and just four walks to rank eighth in the country with a 14.00 ratio strikeout-to-walk.
