Auburn Freshman Lee Punches Ticket to Tokyo

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (EETV) Auburn incoming freshman gymnast Suni Lee is packing her bags and heading to Tokyo to represent her country on the world’s biggest stage: the Olympics. The 18-year-old phenom placed second overall at the USA Gymnastics Olympic Trial and outscored Simone Biles on day two of trials, a feat that had not been accomplished since 2013.

Lee has yet to so much as move into her dorm on the Plains; however, her new head coach Jeff Graba was excited for his freshman’s opportunity to represent the USA.

“It has been an amazing experience to watch Suni achieve what she has been working towards for years," Graba said. "This was such a great weekend. The Auburn program is so excited for her, and we can't wait to cheer her on in July. War Eagle!"

The future Tiger is excited to have earned the right to call herself an Olympian.

"This means so much to me and I've worked so hard for the past couple years," Lee said. "To just go out on the floor and do everything I was supposed to do feels amazing."

Women's gymnastics will get under way at the Tokyo Olympic Games on July 25 with the first round of team competition. Eagle Eye TV will continually provide updates on Lee’s journey.
