WASHINGTON, D.C. (EETV) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted full approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. This marks the first vaccine to move beyond emergency use status in the United States.
The vaccine, now being marketed as Comirnaty, was approved in just over three months of review from the FDA. According to Dr. Peter Marks, the director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, this was around 40% faster than the typical approval timeline for a vaccine.
The approval comes as COVID-19 numbers continue to rise due to the highly infectious Delta variant. Alabama had announced they had run out of I.C.U. beds earlier last week. With cases of COVID-19 on the rise, it is more important than ever to wash your hands, wear your mask, get vaccinated if possible, and most importantly: stay safe.
