AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - With the persistence of COVID-19 throughout the state of Alabama, the Alabama Department of Health continues to encourage masks.
While it is true that the overall level of community transmission of COVID-19 is declining, the disease is still going strong and affecting health across the state. In order to put COVID-19 to an end sooner, the ADPH encourages layered mitigation, which includes universal masking, good hand hygiene, social distancing of at least three feet, environmental cleaning, improved ventilation, and more.
Consistent and correct mask use in schools has helped reduce the number of cases of COVID-19, allowed schools remain open to in-person learning, and helped prevent the consequences of this serious disease. Scientific research published in Pediatrics, as well as the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), supports mitigation measures, especially universal masking.
Wes Stubblefield, former President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and now an ADPH Medical Officer, states, “As data continue to show the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine in children, we urge parents to consider vaccinating those who fall in the eligible groups after a discussion with their health care provider.”
Keep yourself and your community safe and help stop COVID-19 faster by wearing your mask and getting vaccinated.
